Scout Report
When a 6-3 shooting guard from Rhode Island locks up nine D1 offers before his junior year wraps up, coaches are seeing something special.
Background
Chess hails from Newport, where he's been putting up numbers at the prestigious St George's School. The private school pipeline has served him well, giving him the platform to catch the attention of programs up and down the East Coast. His AAU work has been solid, though he's not the flashiest name on the circuit.
Playing Style
Chess brings that classic shooting guard skill set with good size for the position. He can score in bunches when his shot is falling and has the length to bother opposing guards defensively. His basketball IQ is evident in how he moves without the ball and finds open looks. The main area for growth is consistency - both with his jumper and his ability to create his own shot against elite competition.
Recruitment
Already locked into Marist, Chess made his choice from a solid group that included Rhode Island and Buffalo among others. Sitting at #302 nationally in 2026, he's got room to climb if he continues developing. The Red Foxes are getting a player who could contribute right away in the MAAC.
