Northwestern
Scout Report
Northwestern landed a hidden gem when they secured the commitment of this Philadelphia combo guard who brings versatility and basketball IQ to the Wildcats' backcourt.
Background
Hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, West developed his game at William Penn Charter, a prestigious prep school known for developing high-level talent. He competed on the AAU circuit while sharing the court with talented teammates including fellow 2025 recruit Matt Gilhool, who committed to LSU, and rising 2028 prospect Carter Smith.
Playing Style
Standing 6-3 with a combo guard skill set, West possesses the size and versatility to play multiple positions in Northwestern's system. His basketball IQ and court vision allow him to facilitate for teammates while also creating scoring opportunities for himself. West's ability to handle the ball and make plays from different spots on the floor makes him a valuable asset in transition and half-court sets. His length gives him defensive versatility to guard both backcourt positions at the college level.
Recruitment
Despite being ranked #151 nationally in the 2025 class, West flew under the radar for many programs before Northwestern recognized his potential. His commitment to the Wildcats represents excellent value for a program looking to add depth and skill to their backcourt rotation. With proper development in Northwestern's system, West has the tools to exceed his high school ranking and become a contributor in the Big Ten.

Northwestern guard Jake West is the first Wildcat to post 13+ assists on at least a +25 +/- since at least 2004-05. He's the 10th DI high-major player to do so since 2012. West, Kendall Marshall and Michael Carter-Williams are the only underclassmen with such stats in that span. https://t.co/tfdeH46OcF
