Hailing from Newport News, Virginia, Barksdale developed his basketball foundations in the competitive Hampton Roads area basketball scene. His journey to Cavaliers took him through Woodside High School, where he refined his interior game and caught the attention of college scouts. Despite being ranked #187 nationally in the 2025 recruiting class, his combination of size and developing skill set was enough to earn a scholarship offer from his home state Cavaliers.
